The Punjab BJP on Sunday accused rebel Akali MLA Sukwinder Kumar Sukhi, who is now with the AAP, of indulging in ''hooliganism'' in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district and demanded the registration of a case against the legislator. However, Sukhi rejected the allegation, saying he only objected to BJP district president, SBS Nagar, Rajwinder Lucky calling the protesters 'chor' (thieves). Tension prevailed in Balachaur in Nawanshahr when the AAP workers led by Sukhi were holding a protest near the BJP office on Sunday. The call for the state-wide protest was given by the AAP against the BJP over the Enforcement Directorate action against Cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora and accused the Union government of misusing central agencies against its party leaders. BJP district president Lucky said when the AAP workers were holding their demonstration outside the party office, he sought to counter them that when the state vigilance conducts a raid then it is ok and when leaders like Sukhi come from other party, why he should not be called a 'gaddar'. Lucky accused Sukhi of trying to attack him inside the party office. Rejecting the accusation, Banga MLA Sukhi said when they were holding a protest, Lucky allegedly called the AAP protesters 'chor' inspite of the fact that nobody said anything to him. ''We did not abuse him,'' said Sukhi expressing displeasure over Lucky's remarks, calling it as unacceptable. Sukhi said he went inside the BJP office at the instance of some BJP workers to speak to him but Lucky started making a video. A video showed that Sukhi was trying to prevent Lucky from filming him on his mobile. Sukhi is a two-time Akali MLA. He joined the AAP in August 2024. Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma lashed out at Sukhi, and said such kind of 'gundagardi' (hooliganism) will not be allowed. He demanded registration of a case against Sukhi. Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar accused AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal of disturbing atmosphere of Punjab and said that the BJP would never allow AAP's attempts to turn Punjab into ''Mamata Banerjee's Bengal'' to succeed. ''Arvind Kejriwal ji, listen carefully, Punjab will not be allowed to become Mamata Banerjee's Bengal. In the name of a protest, in Balachaur (Nawanshahr), MLA Sukhwinder Sukhi, who joined AAP from the Akali Dal, entered the BJP office in the presence of the police and assaulted the BJP district president while vandalizing the office,'' Jakhar said in a post on X. ''Arvind Kejriwal had already given him a license to loot after inducting him into AAP, but has he now also given him a license to assault people? Arvind Kejriwal, Punjabis are watching everything. No matter how many dramas you put on, action against the corrupt people looting Punjab will continue, and it will also reach those who are still hiding behind the scenes. ''Punjab Police should take strict action against this hooliganism without any delay,'' Jakhar said.
