A Maoist leader, wanted for involvement in multiple cases, was arrested in Kolkata on Tuesday. The woman, from Chakdah, faces charges across 23 cases in Jharkhand. Acting on intelligence, she was apprehended by Kolkata Police in North Kashipur, according to Police Commissioner Ajay Nand.
Simultaneously, another Maoist leader chose to surrender to authorities, aiming to reintegrate into mainstream society. This man, previously detained in 2007, resumed Maoist activities after bail but has since been disillusioned by the evolving organizational ideology.
He encouraged current Maoists to abandon violence and consider rehabilitation, as initiated by government policies for surrendered insurgents. Authorities emphasize the shift towards peace, encouraging insurgents to contribute positively to society.
