Illicit Votes in Tamil Nadu: Foreign Nationals Arrested

Ten foreign nationals, including four women, were arrested in Chennai for allegedly casting illegal votes using fake identity documents during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The arrests were made at Chennai airport as the accused were trying to leave India. Legal proceedings are ongoing.

Authorities in Chennai have apprehended ten foreign nationals, among them four women, for allegedly participating in voter fraud during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The group is accused of casting votes illegally using fraudulent identity documents, despite holding foreign citizenship.

The individuals were intercepted by immigration officials as they attempted to exit India through Chennai International Airport, shortly after the April 23 polls. Investigations have uncovered that they stayed in various locations across Tamil Nadu, ostensibly to participate illicitly in the electoral process.

Subsequent to a complaint lodged by immigration authorities with the Greater Chennai Police Commissionerate, local and central crime units registered cases from May 7 to May 14. All suspects have been presented in court for further legal action.
