The Gujarat government has responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for austerity with guidelines aimed at prudent resource use. The measures include an increased reliance on video conferencing and a reduction in government travel, particularly international trips, announced Minister Jitu Vaghani after a cabinet meeting.
In addition to promoting digital communication, Vaghani emphasized the importance of using public transport over private vehicles and the necessity of cutting down on government vehicle usage. The state aims to implement piped natural gas in all government canteens and extend metro rail services to reduce reliance on personal transport.
Vaghani reassured the public, urging them not to panic or hoard resources. He highlighted the government's commitment to environmental protection and fiscal responsibility, seeking to prioritize indigenous products and local MSMEs. Vaghani outlined the state’s resolve to minimize petrol, diesel, and foreign exchange consumption through these decisive measures.
