Philippines’ Ruthless Drug War Violates Citizens' Rights: Study

Philippines' ruthless drug war violates at least eight citizen's rights enshrined in the Constitution, says a new study by the Ateno Human Rights Centre. The centre's petition challenging the legality of the government's crackdown is before the Supreme Court.

The study highlights that enforcement and implementation have brought up a lot of questions and even accusations of basic human rights. The rights which were affected and made vulnerable by the policies on drug war are Right to Due Process; Right to Equal Protection of the Laws; Right to Unwarranted Searches and Warrantless arrest/Arrest without Cause; Right against Self-Incrimination; Right to Counsel; Right to Presumption of Innocence; Right to Information; and Right to Health.

It also highlighted on the spot testing and extracting confessions without legal counsels present.
