Cong's manifesto document of 'hollow promises', would invite 'anarchism' in country: Javadekar

Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar Tuesday slammed the Congress' poll manifesto as a document of "hollow promises", and alleged it would invite "anarchism" in the country. The BJP's poll in charge for Rajasthan said Congress had promised many things in its election manifestoes for 2004 and 2009 parliamentary elections but failed to deliver.

“Congress manifesto shows complete bankruptcy of the party. They have not read their own manifestos of 2004 and 2009. In 2004, they promised one rank one pension to Army but did not deliver in ten years and it was the Modi government which delivered on OROP and provided for Rs 35000 crore for this solid promise,” Javadekar told reporters here. "They make hollow promises and therefore people do not trust them,” he said.

The minister also said the promises made in the Congress manifesto "would invite anarchism in the country." Releasing its manifesto for Lok Sabha polls in the national capital with a dedicated section on J-K, the Congress on Tuesday said if voted to power it will review the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) as well as deployment of the armed forces in the state, very divergent from the BJP, which accused the opposition party of making "dangerous promises" and compromising on national security.

The Congress also promised to abolish the provision of sedition in the IPC and to make defamation a civil offence. Javadekar said in 2009, Congress had promised that all villages will have broadband but till 2014 only 59 villages were having broadband. "Modi government carried it to nearly 2 lakh villages," he claimed.

They had promised in 2004 and 2009 direct support to farmers "which they have never done,” the minister said. Javadekar said that Modi government gave farmers 'samman' (respect). "Rs 6000 per year for 12 crore farmers has been delivered by the Modi government."

The BJP leader claimed the Congress had also promised electricity in every household of the country in its 2004 manifesto but nothing was delivered in ten years. "We have electrified more than 2.5 crore households and remaining will be energised this year. They (Congress) also promised GST in 2009 manifesto but did not delivered and it was the Modi government which brought GST," the minister said.

He said Congress had also failed to deliver on defence modernisation and did nothing to contain inflation too.
