Raj: Farmers dig pit, sit in them to protest land acquisition

Nearly 50 farmers in Rajasthan's Dausa district have dug pits and are sitting in them to protest against the acquisition of their land by the National Highways Authority of India, an official said on Friday. 'Bhoomi Satyagrah', the farmers' protest against the NHAI's land acquisition, began on Thursday, said Additional District Collector Lokesh Kumar Meena.
A representation of the demands of the agitating farmers was submitted to NHAI officials, Meena said, adding that the the farmers are demanding four times the compensation that was offered to them. The land acquisition was for Delhi-Vadodara highway which will pass through Alwar, Baswa, Dausa, Lalsot, Sawai Madhopur and Kota in Rajasthan, a NHAI official said.
