Senegal signs deal with US Govt. Agency to strengthen country’s power sector

The power sector in Senegal is going to get a rapid boost. Recently, Mahammed Dionne, the Prime Minister of Senegal has signed a USD 550 million five-year power deal with the current United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo.

The $550 million Senegal Power Compact will modernize and strengthen Senegal's power sector to increase economic growth and reduce poverty through improved access to electricity. According to the deal, an additional $50 million will be contributed to the compact by the government of Senegal to bring the total investment to $600 million.

The compact prized at such a gargantuan amount is likely to strengthen electrical transmission links in Dakar city including expanding electricity coverage in rural and remote areas. The project aims to improve the overall governance of Senegal's power sector. The Senegal Power Compact is likely to benefit more than 12 million people across the nation.
