The government of Tanzania has revealed on February 6 that only 15 percent of the country’s land was surveyed.
Tanzania’s current Deputy Minister of lands and human settlement development, Angelina Mabula was replying in the parliament to a question thrown to the ministry by special seats legislator Ruth Mollel who wanted to know the budget trend for surveying of land between 2010 and 2015 and the size of the plot already covered by the survey exercise.
In reply, Angelina Mabula said that the government has so far covered 2 million plots with 141,750 sq. km, which overall represents 15 percent of all the lands the country has.
She further said that some Sh6.3 billion was disbursed for the purpose of surveying between 2015 and 2018. But, according to her, the surveying trend was strongly criticized by Ruth Mollel on the grounds that the speed was not promising. “This might be attributed to budget deficit allocated for surveying,” she added.
