Outer Ring Road in Kenya’s capital to get multiple bus stops, footbridges

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority is looking forward to the construction of multiple bus stops and footbridges with the application of previous earmarked investment of Sh880 million.

The country will witness the making of 19 bus stops and seven additional footbridges on Outer Ring Road in Nairobi. The aim is to boosting safety for road users and pedestrians including developing service and access roads to facilitate evacuation and traffic movement.

All Africa said that the road completed in July 2017 had been criticized for lacking service and emergency lanes, footbridges and road markings, making its crossing a major risk. "The problem is not the design. It's the way we use our roads as non-motorised traffic. We have designated areas where people are supposed to cross, but most choose to jump over the guard rails. We even have policemen manning those pedestrian crossings, but people do not want to walk an extra 100 metres," Kenya Urban Roads Authority acting Director- General Sila Kinoti opined.
