Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday accused the ruling BJP of misusing administrative powers during the Uttar Pradesh elections, and lambasted the Election Commission for its slow action.

In a press statement from the SP headquarters, the former UP chief minister alleged, 'Today, during the last phase of voting, the BJP continued its habitual misuse of the administration.' Yadav cited incidents at booths in Mirzapur and Barhaj of Deoria district, where he said complaints had been registered against the BJP for intimidating voters and obstructing the polling process.

'At many places, Samajwadi Party workers were misbehaved with and arrested. The administration's intention was to not let Samajwadi Party supporters vote,' expressed Yadav, further highlighting the lack of transparency by the Election Commission for free and fair elections. He also mentioned that the public resisted such tactics at many places. Yadav claimed that support for the Samajwadi PDA-INDIA alliance surged in the final phase, with voters expressing their anger against the BJP.
