BJP Secures Majority in Gujarat While Vote Share Wanes

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed 25 out of 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, despite a drop in their vote share to 61.86% from 63.11% in 2019. Congress managed to snag one seat, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to win any. Combined, the Congress and AAP held 33.93% of the vote share.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has successfully retained 25 out of the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, according to the latest Election Commission data. However, their vote share fell to 61.86% from 63.11% in the 2019 elections.

The INDIA bloc partners, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), contested in 25 constituencies, garnering a combined vote share of 33.93%. Congress secured 31.24%, while AAP managed only 2.69%.

In a closely contested seat, Congress managed to wrest Banaskantha from BJP, disrupting their attempt to win all 26 seats for the third consecutive term on the home ground of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Notably, AAP could not secure victories in Bharuch and Bhavnagar.

In the 2019 elections, Congress contested solo and failed to win any seats, although it captured a 32.55% vote share, as per EC data.

Other parties struggled as well, with Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) obtaining a mere 0.76% of the vote share, even less than the 1.56% secured by NOTA (None of the Above).
