G Kishan Reddy: From Grassroots Activist to Union Minister

G Kishan Reddy, a first-generation politician from rural Telangana, rose from being an ordinary worker to a Union minister. G Kishan Reddy, BJP Telangana president, was sworn in as Union minister for a second term on Sunday. Overcoming significant odds as a first-generation politician from a rural background, Reddy's journey is a testament to his perseverance and dedication.

The 64-year-old leader successfully retained the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, defeating Congress rival Danam Nagender by over 49,000 votes. Born to middle-class farmer parents in Telangana's Ranga Reddy district, Reddy began his political career in 1977 and has since held numerous key positions within the BJP, including state unit president and national president of BJP's Yuva Morcha.

As a Union minister, Reddy has managed portfolios like Home, Tourism, Culture, and Northeastern Development. Affectionately known as 'Kishan Anna,' Reddy's political journey began with the Janata Party, evolving over decades into a significant role within the BJP. He has spearheaded several initiatives and protests, notably for the Home Guards' cause.
