Putin's Proposal: Cease-Fire Hinges on Kyiv's Troop Withdrawal & NATO Renouncement
Russian President Vladimir Putin promised to order a cease-fire in Ukraine if Kyiv withdraws its troops from occupied regions and renounces NATO plans. Kyiv has rejected this deal, demanding Russian troop withdrawal. Putin's statement coincided with a G7 meeting in Italy and a separate peace effort in Switzerland.

In a surprising turn of events, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Friday his willingness to 'immediately' order a cease-fire in Ukraine, contingent upon Kyiv's withdrawal from the four occupied Ukrainian regions and the renouncement of its NATO ambitions.
The proposal, however, is viewed as a nonstarter for Kyiv, which remains steadfast in joining the military alliance and insists on the complete withdrawal of Russian forces from its territory.
'We will do it immediately,' asserted Putin during his address at the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow. His comments come as the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations convened in Italy and Switzerland readied to host global leaders over the weekend, excluding Russia, in an effort to discuss initial steps towards peace in Ukraine.
