BJP Detentions in Tamil Nadu Spark Political Outrage

The police detained numerous BJP members, including senior leader H Raja, across Tamil Nadu for protesting against the ruling DMK over the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy. In a sweeping crackdown, Tamil Nadu police detained scores of BJP members on Saturday, including senior leader H Raja, during state-wide protests against the ruling DMK over the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy. The BJP claims the DMK government has failed to curb the illicit arrack trade.

Hundreds of BJP workers were detained in major districts like Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, and Salem. Senior leader H Raja, leading the protest in Madurai, was also taken into custody. Raja criticized the DMK for stifling democratic protests, questioning why the peaceful demonstrations were not allowed.

Raja further accused DMK leader and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi of lifting the prohibition ban, paving the way for arrack in Tamil Nadu. He argued that the widespread detentions indicate the ruling government's fear, asking why they prevent the truth from being told to the public.
