Despite not naming any specific religion, Sarma emphasized that the perpetrators will face strict action. He noted a series of incidents in Dhubri, Barpeta, and Mangaldoi, citing harassment of indigenous people allegedly by members of a specific community.

He attributed this spike in crime to political changes following recent Lok Sabha elections which have emboldened a certain section of society. Sarma stressed that it is vital to politically educate the people of Assam on these developments and their potential dangers.
