BJP leaders and workers staged a protest against the AAP government near the Delhi Secretariat on Friday, citing an alleged hike in electricity charges in the city.
Alongside representatives of Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs), BJP workers set ablaze copies of electricity bills, demanding the rollback of the increased Power Purchase Adjustment Charge (PPAC). Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva accused the Arvind Kejriwal government of raising the PPAC for political benefit without altering the per unit cost of electricity.
In contrast, the AAP accused BJP of spreading misinformation, stating that the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission's order had not changed and the PPAC hike was a provision allowed under the Electricity Act, 2003, due to higher power purchase costs. The protest culminated in some BJP workers being detained near the Delhi Secretariat but were later released.
