Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Sunday joined a chorus of world leaders condemning the shooting that left former U.S. President Donald Trump wounded at a Pennsylvania campaign rally on Saturday. "I am appalled to learn about the shooting of former U.S. President Donald Trump at his rally in Pennsylvania," he wrote on X. "Such violence has no justification and no place anywhere in the world. Never should violence prevail."
U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and British Prime Minister Kier Starmer have all decried the attack, which is being investigated as an assassination attempt. Zelenskiy added he was "relieved" that Trump, who has frequently criticized U.S. military aid to Ukraine amid Russia's invasion, was safe and wished him "a speedy recovery".
"I extend my wishes for strength to everyone who is horrified by this event. I wish America emerges stronger from this."
