Biden Urges Calm After Trump Shooting Incident
In a rare Oval Office address, President Joe Biden urged Americans to lower political tensions following an assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Biden emphasized the need to resolve differences through the ballot box rather than violence. The speech highlighted increasing political violence and called for unity and peaceful discourse.
In a televised address from the Oval Office, President Joe Biden on Sunday called for Americans to lower political tensions following the wounding of his Republican rival, Donald Trump, at a Pennsylvania rally.
Biden urged Americans to reject violence, stating, 'The political rhetoric in this country has gotten very heated. It’s time to cool it down.' In his seven-minute speech, Biden emphasized resolving differences at the ballot box, not with violence.
The address, aimed at uniting the nation less than four months before the election, also served to bolster Biden's image as an incumbent leader. He reiterated that violence is never the answer, citing recent instances of political violence and historical assassination attempts on U.S. presidents.
