The Biden administration alerted Secret Service senior officials and Trump's protection detail about the threat, leading to enhanced security measures for Trump. However, these resources did not prevent an attack at a Pennsylvania rally, where Trump was injured in the ear, one rallygoer was killed, and two were severely injured.

National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson highlighted the longstanding threats from Iran due to the 2020 killing of Qassem Soleimani, emphasizing the national and homeland security priority of the matter. Currently, law enforcement has found no connection between the shooter and any accomplices, Watson added.
