Starmer Calls for Renewed European Cooperation on Ukraine Support
Britain's new prime minister, Keir Starmer, has called for closer European cooperation to support Ukraine and address other pressing issues such as illegal migration, climate change, and energy security. Speaking at the European Political Community meeting, Starmer aimed to reset post-Brexit EU ties, advocating for ongoing support and unity in Europe.
Britain's new prime minister, Keir Starmer, urged closer European cooperation on Thursday to bolster support for Ukraine and tackle pressing issues like illegal migration, climate change, and energy security. Opening the European Political Community (EPC) meeting at Blenheim Palace, Starmer sought a reset of post-Brexit EU ties.
Distancing from the previous Conservative government, which had threatened to leave an international human rights treaty, Starmer offered European leaders a fresh start. 'Under my leadership, Britain will be a friend and a participant, ready to work with you. Not part of the European Union, but very much part of Europe,' he stated.
Starmer's push for deeper cooperation comes amid potential shifts in U.S. support for Ukraine, with the possible election of Donald Trump. Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced a new command center in Germany to coordinate military support for Ukraine.
