US President Joe Biden, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week, is managing his treatment well and continuing his presidential responsibilities, according to the White House physician.
In a memo to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, Dr. Kevin C. O'Connor, the presidential physician, revealed that genomic sequencing identified the KP .2.3 variant as the cause. This variant represents approximately 33.3 percent of new infections in the US.
''President Biden completed his sixth dose of PAXLOVID this morning. He continues to experience a loose, non-productive cough and hoarseness, but his symptoms are steadily improving,'' Dr. O'Connor noted. Biden's vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and temperature, remain normal, and his oxygen saturation is excellent.
The president, who tested positive on July 17, interrupted his campaign at a critical point in the presidential election. He has since been isolating at his home in Delaware. The timing of his diagnosis has sparked concerns among Democratic lawmakers eager to see him more visibly involved in his campaign.
