Opposition Chief Ministers Boycott NITI Aayog Meeting Over Union Budget Discrimination

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has postponed her visit to New Delhi for a NITI Aayog meeting, following Congress chief ministers' boycott over alleged bias in the Union Budget. Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M K Stalin has also cited similar reasons for his boycott. The TMC, part of the opposition bloc INDIA, remains tight-lipped about Banerjee's revised schedule.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, initially scheduled to depart for New Delhi on Thursday to attend the NITI Aayog meeting on July 27, has decided to delay her trip by a day, according to sources from the TMC.

This development comes shortly after Congress chief ministers opted to boycott the upcoming NITI Aayog meeting in protest of what they claim is discrimination against opposition-ruled states in the Union Budget.

Similarly, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced his decision to skip the NITI Aayog meet, expressing concerns that his state has been entirely neglected in the Union Budget.

A TMC source commented, “The Chief Minister will not be going to New Delhi this afternoon. She didn’t disclose any reason.”

When asked if Banerjee would depart on Friday, the source added, “It is not yet known. It will be known tomorrow only.”

The TMC is also aligned with the national opposition bloc INDIA.
