Kamala Harris Narrows Trump Lead in Presidential Race
Vice President Kamala Harris surged in the polls as she campaigned for the upcoming U.S. presidential election. Addressing the American Federation of Teachers, Harris focused on economic policies and workers' rights. Polls show a narrowing gap with Donald Trump, setting the stage for a closely contested election.
Vice President Kamala Harris took her presidential campaign to the largest U.S. teachers' union on Thursday, promising a 'fight for the future' as new opinion polls showed her narrowing the gap with Republican rival Donald Trump. Harris' emergence as the successor to President Joe Biden has shaken up a stagnant presidential race, with multiple polls showing her closing in on Trump's lead.
Speaking in Houston to the American Federation of Teachers, Harris emphasized economic policy and workers' rights, highlighting plans for affordable healthcare and child care while criticizing Republicans for blocking gun regulations in the wake of school shootings. 'Ours is a fight for the future,' Harris announced to an audience of around 3,500 people.
Polls conducted since Biden ended his reelection bid indicate a closely contested race between Harris and Trump. According to a New York Times/Siena College poll, Harris has significantly reduced Trump's lead among registered voters. Additionally, an Emerson College/The Hill poll showed Harris closing the gap in critical battleground states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
