In a significant legal move, former BJP MP Maneka Gandhi has taken her grievances over the recent Lok Sabha election to the Allahabad High Court. Gandhi contests the legitimacy of Samajwadi Party MP Ram Bhual Nishad's victory from Sultanpur.
Gandhi, who was defeated by a margin of 43,174 votes, lodged an election petition over the weekend. The petition is expected to be heard by the Lucknow bench on July 30.
According to Gandhi, Nishad failed to disclose his complete criminal history in the affidavit submitted with his nomination papers. The petition highlights that while Nishad declared eight cases, there are allegedly twelve cases pending against him, with several unreported cases from Pipraich and Barhalganj police stations in Gorakhpur district.
The petition demands that the High Court invalidate Nishad's election and recognize Maneka Gandhi as the rightful winner.
