BJP Chief Nadda Slams Congress over OBC Representation

BJP chief J P Nadda criticized Congress for its lack of OBC, SC, and ST representation during the UPA regime, accusing the party of hypocrisy. He highlighted the BJP's inclusive cabinet and defended the Agnipath scheme and MSP hike under Modi's government, while labelling Congress's current stance as opportunistic.

BJP chief J P Nadda lashed out at Congress on Tuesday, questioning the party's representation of OBC, SC, and ST members during the UPA regime. Nadda's criticism came during a Rajya Sabha discussion on the Union Budget.

Nadda accused Congress leaders of opposing reservations and the Swaminathan Commission's MSP hike recommendations while in power, but now pretending to champion OBCs and farmers by shedding 'crocodile tears'. He cited former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s dismissal of the Mandal Commission report as an example of Congress’s historical stance on caste issues.

The BJP president contrasted this with Prime Minister Modi's cabinets, which he claimed have had the maximum number of OBC, SC, and ST members. He also defended the Agnipath scheme and blasted Congress for politicizing national issues like defence. Reflecting on the Union Budget 2024-25, Nadda highlighted it as a blueprint for economic stability through inclusive development.
