Gov. Roy Cooper Declines VP Speculation, Focuses on State and Environmental Goals

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has officially ruled out the possibility of becoming Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate. Speaking at a public event in Brunswick County with EPA Administrator Michael Regan, Cooper expressed his enthusiasm about the range of Democratic candidates available for the role.

Cooper reiterated that now is not the right time for him or his state to be part of the national ticket. This decision is partly influenced by concerns over Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson potentially taking advantage of Cooper's absence from the state.

During Tuesday’s event, Cooper and Regan celebrated a $421 million federal grant aimed at reducing climate pollution through conservation projects across several states. The grant will support the preservation and restoration of coastal habitats, forests, and farmland.
