BJP leader and former Union minister Raosaheb Danve on Wednesday demanded that the opposition in Maharashtra clarify its stance on granting reservation to Marathas from the OBC quota.
Speaking to reporters, Danve, who previously served as Maharashtra BJP chief, emphasized that his party aims to support Maratha reservations without harming other communities' interests.
He urged Maratha reservation activists to approach leaders of all political factions, starting with the Congress, NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT), to seek their official positions on the matter. Danve further noted that if the opposition supports reservations from the OBC quota, it should be included in their manifestos.
Danve's comments came after Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray stated that the quota issue could only be resolved by the Centre through an amendment to lift the 50 per cent reservation cap, a power not vested in the state government. Maratha activists had also met Thackeray on Tuesday, further fueling the demand for clarity from political leaders.
