Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi has issued a breach of privilege notice against Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the dissemination of Anurag Thakur's speech made in the Lok Sabha. However, BJP sources insist that Thakur's comments are a matter of parliamentary record and the notice lacks merit.
Following objections from opposition members, including Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, to Thakur's remarks on the Union Budget, the BJP MP clarified that he had not named any member. Union Ministers and BJP officials have condemned the Congress for their protests, asserting that Thakur did not single out any individual.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi criticized Congress, suggesting the party is using excuses to divert issues. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused Congress of attempting to divide the country based on caste. On the other hand, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge condemned Thakur's remarks and argued that such comments should not be celebrated by PM Modi.
Former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi reinforced his stance by writing to Speaker Om Birla, urging him to acknowledge the breach of privilege. Additionally, former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai and BJP MP Sambit Patra questioned the Congress' stance on caste census, further intensifying the debate.
