India and China held 'constructive' and 'forward-looking' diplomatic talks on Wednesday aimed at resolving the over four-year border standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. However, there was no clear breakthrough.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasized that the restoration of peace and respect for the LAC are crucial for normalizing bilateral relations.
The talks were part of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC). This meeting came days after India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi met in Vientiane, Lao PDR's capital.
