Ramaswamy Critiques Harris for 'Identity Politics' Stance
Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for using 'identity politics' for convenience. He noted that Harris leaned on her Indian-American heritage when it benefited her politically but has now shifted her focus. Ramaswamy emphasized the need for a unified American identity.
Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has accused Vice President Kamala Harris of exploiting 'identity politics' for convenience. He asserted that Harris embraced her Indian-American background when it served her campaign in California but has distanced from it on the national stage.
Ramaswamy, now a supporter of the Republican Party's nominee Donald Trump, compared Harris' heritage with his own to highlight his perspective.
'My parents were legal immigrants from southern India, the same part as Harris' mother. It offends many Indian-Americans that Kamala casts aside her Indian-American identity conveniently,' Ramaswamy told Fox News.
'Harris leaned on it during her California run due to the large Asian-American and Indian-American populace. Now, she wears a different identity nationally for political reasons,' he alleged.
Ramaswamy believes Americans should not rely on ethnic identities for political decisions. 'Our identity should be as Americans with a shared vision for the country,' he said, criticizing Harris for lacking such a vision.
Harris is of both Indian and African American descent. Her mother hails from India and her father from Jamaica.
Former President Trump also ridiculed Vice President Harris's heritage during a National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention, claiming she 'happened to turn Black' recently.
