The Lok Sabha Secretariat disclosed on Thursday that heavy rains in Delhi caused minor water leakage in the Lobby of the newly-inaugurated Parliament Building. The issue arose from slightly displaced adhesive material used to fix glass domes, leading to immediate corrective actions. Additionally, accumulated water near Makar Dwar was drained swiftly.

In a press release, the Secretariat addressed media reports about water leakage and waterlogging near the new building. Videos of the incident circulated widely on social media, raising concerns about the structure's resilience to adverse weather conditions.

The statement emphasized that glass domes were installed in the Parliament Building to maximize natural light as part of the Green Parliament initiative. However, during the recent downpour, the adhesive holding these domes shifted, resulting in the leakage. The issue was quickly identified and resolved. Concurrently, water accumulation near Makar Dwar was managed efficiently.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore issued an adjournment notice in the Lok Sabha, stressing that the leakage pointed to potential flaws in the building's weather resilience, merely a year after its inauguration. He suggested forming a multi-party committee to thoroughly inspect the issue. Other opposition MPs, including Priyanka Chaturvedi and Manoj Jha, supported this view during discussions on the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs' demands for grants in the Rajya Sabha.
