Indian-American Amish Shah Wins Democratic Primary in Arizona
Amish Shah, a physician by profession and former state representative, has triumphed in the Democratic primary for Arizona’s First Congressional District. He secured the nomination in a crowded field, setting up a challenging election against incumbent Republican David Schweikert in November.
Indian-origin physician Amish Shah has secured a notable victory in the Democratic primary for the First Congressional District in Arizona, edging out primary rival Andrei Cherny and others.
Shah, 47, a former state representative, held a significant lead with 1,629 votes and won by a 23.9 per cent - 21.4 per cent margin over Cherny, who conceded on Thursday.
He will now face incumbent Republican David Schweikert, who has been in office for seven terms, in the upcoming November election.
Shah previously founded the Arizona Vegetarian Food Festival to promote healthy lifestyles and has been a member of the Arizona House of Representatives since 2019.
