The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday criticized the BJP for its ''silence'' following the deaths of a woman and her three-year-old son, who fell into a waterlogged drain in East Delhi. The party claims the BJP only seeks power and not the welfare of people.
During a press conference, Gopal Rai, AAP's Delhi convener, accused the BJP of ''double standards.'' Rai pointed out that initially, BJP spokespeople had visited the site, but stopped commenting once it was revealed that the drain belongs to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), overseen by the Lt Governor, who is also a BJP supporter.
AAP MLA and DDA member Dilip Pandey has written to Lt Governor VK Saxena, demanding strict action against the responsible officials and financial compensation for the victims' family. The Delhi Development Authority stated that part of the drain had been handed over to the MCD, while the remaining part is under the DDA and covered with RCC slabs. The tragic incident occurred as the mother-son duo was returning from a weekly market near Khoda Colony amid heavy rain.
