Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhawma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence on Thursday, expressing gratitude for the central government's Rs 10 crore assistance to Mizoram for displaced people.
During the meeting, Lalduhawma urged Shah to arrange a dialogue with the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum, representing Manipur's tribal communities. Shah mentioned that the Central Special Team for Cyclone Remal has submitted its report, with aid expected soon.
The discussion also covered relocating the Assam Rifles from Aizawl to Zokhawsang. Cyclone Remal, which struck northeastern India and Bangladesh on May 26-28, 2024, killed at least nine people, and caused severe damage including flash floods, heavy rains, and landslides.
In Aizawl, a quarry collapse resulted in 14 deaths. Landslides disrupted national highways and damaged cemeteries. Hundreds sought refuge in relief camps after rains destroyed homes and downed power lines.
