AAP leaders and workers on Saturday protested near Raj Niwas, demanding Lt Governor V K Saxena's resignation after a woman and her child died upon slipping into a water-logged drain in east Delhi.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stated that the drain is under the jurisdiction of the Lt Governor-headed DDA. However, Raj Niwas countered that the portion of the drain where the victims fell is under the AAP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar labeled it as murder, calling for charges against responsible officers.
Protesters marched towards Raj Niwas, stopped by police barricades, chanting slogans and demanding the LG's resignation. The LG office accused AAP leaders of misleading the public, insisting the drain is under MCD control.
The drain, partially desilted and uncovered, stretches 1,350 meters, with 1,000 meters within MCD's jurisdiction. AAP claims the drain maintained by DDA led to the incident. They urged the LG to accept accountability and provide compensation to the bereaved family of the victims, identified as Tanuja and her son Priyansh.
