In a fierce attack against Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has accused him of protecting Moeed Khan, the primary suspect in the gang rape of a minor girl. Poonawalla argued that Yadav, focusing on vote-bank politics, is neglecting the interests of PDA (Pichda, Dalit, Adivasi) communities.
Poonawalla remarked to ANI, "A daughter of the PDA community is raped, and yet the SP Chief can't expel the accused due to vote-bank concerns. It's a question of trust on a 12-year-old girl versus political allegiance." He further criticized Yadav's hesitation to remove Moeed Khan, alleging that vote banks outweigh justice for the victim.
Adding to the discourse, Akhilesh Yadav advocated for DNA tests on the accused to ensure justice, cautioning against making baseless allegations. His stance, however, drew ire from BSP Chief Mayawati and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo, who condemned the politicization of a serious crime.
