The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP is set to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Article 370 abrogation with a rally named 'Ekatma Mahotsav' on Monday, a senior party leader confirmed.
As security is intensified in the region to prevent any disruptions, opposition parties like Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have sharply criticized the BJP's decision to celebrate. A PDP leader announced plans to demonstrate outside the party's Gandhinagar headquarters, while the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) scheduled a protest at Maharaja Hari Singh Park.
The 'Ekatma Mahotsav' will take place at Bana Singh Stadium in R S Pura, marking five years since Jammu and Kashmir's unification with India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. J-K BJP general secretary Vibodh Gupta underscored the significance of the day, heralding it as a step toward full integration and development. Meanwhile, opposition voices, including J-K Congress chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, have contested this narrative, accusing the BJP of celebrating the 'destruction' of the historic Dogra state.
