BJP MP Questions Waqf Property Records, Seeks Clarifications

BJP MP from Karnataka, Captain Brijesh Chowta, on Wednesday raised inquiries in the Lok Sabha regarding the state-wise records of Waqf properties, specifically highlighting Dakshina Kannada.

In a post on X, Chowta mentioned receiving a detailed written reply from Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju. The minister outlined the process of designating lands as Waqf properties and noted the presence of monthly updated records on the Waqf Asset Management System of India (WAMASI) Portal.

According to Rijiju, the WAMASI Portal as of July 31 has documented 62,830 Waqf properties in Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada. Government sources indicate the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, expected after the Finance Bill's passage, will mandate property registration with District Collectors and promote women's representation on Waqf boards.
