South Korea Proposes Inter-Korean Working Group to Ease Tensions
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol extended an olive branch to North Korea on Thursday, offering to establish a working-level consultative body aimed at easing tensions and fostering economic cooperation.

In his speech commemorating the 79th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule, Yoon outlined a vision for unification that hinges on North Korea taking just one step toward denuclearization. He emphasized that such a move would be sufficient to initiate political and economic collaboration.

Yoon proposed launching an 'inter-Korean working group' to tackle issues ranging from economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges to the reunion of families separated since the Korean War.
