Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condemned the culture of corruption and patronage, referring to it as a 'termite,' during his Independence Day address.
Speaking from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Modi expressed grave concerns over the glorification of corruption, describing it as a significant societal issue.
'Every citizen of this country has been troubled by the termite of corruption,' Modi asserted, adding that corruption erodes public trust and obstructs national progress. He pledged to persevere in his fight against corruption, even at the cost of his own prestige, insisting that national interests must take precedence.
The Prime Minister questioned how, in a nation with such a grand Constitution, some individuals could openly celebrate corruption, and criticized the historical 'mai-baap' culture where citizens had to beg the government for basic needs. Modi highlighted that his administration has transformed this outdated governance model.
