In a strong political offensive, BJP leaders fanned out across the country on Friday to target opposition parties over women's safety concerns. This followed the recent rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata, an incident that has set off a political firestorm.
Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi accused opposition parties of harboring a dangerous mindset of hatred and disregard for women, while protecting criminals from Kannauj to Kolkata. He challenged Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to explain whether their 'Mohabbat Ki Dukan' was solely operated by criminals, corrupt individuals, and rapists.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury responded, criticizing the state of democracy in West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee, labeling her a dictator who shields wrongdoers. Meanwhile, Union Minister Giriraj Singh in New Delhi accused Banerjee of being so power-obsessed that she wouldn’t hesitate to abuse sacred figures like Lord Ram, emphasizing his role as a symbol of peace.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala expressed that the Calcutta High Court's decision to transfer the investigation to the CBI highlights the lack of trust in the West Bengal government and police. He called for Banerjee's resignation, citing her lost moral and constitutional right to remain in office.
In Rajasthan, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia alleged that fundamental constitutional principles were being violated in West Bengal while opposition leaders remained silent on women's atrocities. Former Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma and others echoed similar sentiments in various states, ramping up pressure on the opposition.
