UDF Convenor M M Hassan condemned the Prime Minister's stance as both 'unfortunate' and an 'insult' to the framers of the Constitution, including Dr. B R Ambedkar.

Alleging that Modi’s comments sought to create an atmosphere of hatred, Hassan accused the Modi government of pushing for a single personal law since coming to power in 2014, further stating internal differences within BJP on the issue and accusing Modi of playing vote-bank politics.
