Congress Eyes Alliance for J&K Assembly Polls

Congress leader Alka Lamba announced party's decision on a potential alliance with regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir for Assembly elections. Congress leader Alka Lamba on Sunday indicated that the party leadership would soon decide on forming an alliance with regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir for the upcoming Assembly elections.

Reflecting on the previous Lok Sabha polls, Lamba noted that the Congress had won two out of three seats in Kashmir through an existing alliance. 'The central leadership is in discussions with local leaders here, and any decision made will be communicated to the public,' Lamba told reporters in Verinag, South Kashmir's Anantnag district.

In addition, AICC general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir organized a women's convention presided over by Lamba, the president of the All India Mahila Congress. Addressing speculations about Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chief Ghulam Nabi Azad rejoining the Congress, Lamba stated that the party would welcome him back with an 'open heart.' She emphasized that strengthening democracy in J-K was the party's primary aim.

Lamba also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, criticizing the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, citing instances of violence against women and accusing the government of failing to provide security for them.
