Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters amassed outside the Democratic National Convention's opening day on Monday, criticizing the Biden administration's support for Israel amid its Gaza conflict. The one-mile march organized by 'March on the DNC' began hours before President Joe Biden was set to address party delegates at the Chicago convention arena.

Hatem Abudayyeh, a spokesperson for the organizing group, anticipated tens of thousands before the event; by the afternoon, the gathering filled half of the designated park space. The coalition of over 200 groups, advocating causes from reproductive rights to racial justice, saw a significant turnout from Palestinian and Arab communities in Illinois and neighboring states.

Among the demonstrators was Roman Fritz, one of the youngest delegates, expressing concerns about Secret Service confiscating his Palestinian keffiyeh scarf. Despite supporting Harris to defeat Trump, Fritz and many others criticized the Biden administration, seeking policy changes and an arms embargo on Israel. Another protest is scheduled for Thursday during Kamala Harris's nomination acceptance, with organizers confident in maintaining peace despite a substantial police and Secret Service presence.
