Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris emphasized during her Democratic National Convention speech on Thursday that she is committed to passing a middle class tax cut if elected president.
Harris criticized her opponent, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, for neglecting middle-class interests. 'Instead of the Trump tax hike, we will pass a middle class tax cut that will benefit more than 100 million Americans,' Harris stated, although she did not provide specific details.
She argued that Trump's tariff plans amount to price hikes and called building the middle class 'a defining goal of her presidency.' Harris vowed to create an 'opportunity economy' that allows everyone 'the chance to compete and succeed.'
Last week, Harris outlined proposals to cut taxes for most Americans, ban 'price gouging' by grocers, and increase affordable housing. This agenda may face resistance in Congress, much like similar proposals from Democratic U.S. President Joe Biden.
Harris aims to clearly differentiate herself from Trump on broad economic policies, specifically regarding tariffs and taxes.
