Sudesh Mahto, chief of Jharkhand's AJSU Party, has announced an alliance with the BJP for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly polls. The announcement came after Mahto's meeting with senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
In his statement, Mahto said, "Today I met with Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah in New Delhi. On this occasion, there was an in-depth discussion on various topics related to the development of Jharkhand, the current political situation and the upcoming assembly elections."
Mahto emphasized the necessity of an NDA government for Jharkhand and confirmed that they would contest the elections unitedly. This marks a shift from the last assembly polls where the AJSU Party had contested alone. However, the AJSU had allied with the BJP for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
During the meeting with Shah, Mahto discussed the prevalent political scenario in Jharkhand and the functioning of the JMM-led government, as well as the impact of these developments. Also discussed was the issue of senior JMM leader Champai Soren, who has expressed discontent with his party and is speculated to be considering a switch to the BJP.
Mahto described Soren as a significant figure in Jharkhand politics and added that Soren has multiple options moving forward. Soren himself recently mentioned that founding a new political outfit remains an option after facing 'humiliation' from JMM leaders.
