Vice President Kamala Harris is set to sit down this week with CNN for her first interview since President Joe Biden announced his reelection bid.

Joining her will be her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The interview, conducted by CNN anchor Dana Bash, will take place in Savannah, Georgia, and will air on Thursday.

Harris has faced criticism for limited media access, a key point of attack from Republicans following Biden's announcement on July 21. The upcoming interview provides an opportunity for Harris to counter these claims, although it also presents risks as her team works to capitalize on the momentum from the Democratic National Convention and the ticket shakeup.

Throughout her vice presidency, Harris has participated in numerous on-camera and print interviews, often more frequently than President Biden. The Trump campaign has kept track of the days she has not given an interview as a candidate. Reacting to the scheduled interview, the campaign noted that it was a joint appearance, questioning her ability to handle such settings alone. Harris previously expressed her intention to conduct a formal interview before the end of August.

On her trips, Harris travels with media members on Air Force Two and usually interacts with them before departure, although these conversations are off the record. She is also expected to rally voters in Savannah on Thursday as part of a bus tour starting Wednesday.
