The BJP has sparked a debate over the relevance of the Maha Vikas Aghadi's (MVA) planned agitation against the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue, despite a formal apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During a press conference on Saturday, state BJP chief spokesperson Keshav Upadhye claimed that the protest, scheduled for Sunday, is a politically motivated move eyeing the forthcoming assembly elections.
Alleging superficial love for the Maratha empire's founder, Upadhye questioned the opposition's sincerity, citing past incidents where similar apologies were given by Congress leaders without any protests.
