BJP Outflanks AAP in MCD Zonal Ward Polls

The BJP defeated AAP in the MCD zonal ward polls, securing top positions in the civic body's standing committee. BJP candidates won in seven zones, while AAP managed victories in five. The elections, held for the first time since MCD's 2022 unification, occurred amid heavy security arrangements.

The BJP on Wednesday overcame the AAP in the MCD zonal ward polls, affirming its dominance in the civic body's highest decision-making entity—the standing committee.

The BJP clinched the posts of chairman and deputy chairman of zonal-level ward committees, and one standing committee member in seven of 12 zones, limiting the AAP to five zones. Notably, voting didn't occur in three zones—Karol Bagh, City SP, and Keshav Puram—as neither party fielded candidates.

Winners for the BJP included Narela, Civil Lines, Keshav Puram, Shahdara North, Najafgarh, Shahdara South, and Central Zones. Meanwhile, AAP secured Karol Bagh, West, South, City SP, and Rohini zones. Security was beefed up around the Civic Centre in central Delhi, ensuring smooth conduct of the extensively anticipated elections.
